We rewire a whole house or the rooms that need it, planned room by room so you can keep living in the house.
A rewire happens in two stages. First fix is the disruptive part: lifting floorboards, chasing walls and running the new cables, a room or two at a time. Second fix is fitting the new sockets, switches, lights and consumer unit, then testing everything.
It's the best time to decide where you want extra sockets, lights and data points, because adding them later means more disruption. A rewire is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations in England, so when it's finished you get an Electrical Installation Certificate and a Building Regulations compliance certificate. Making good the plaster after chasing is often done by a plasterer, so ask what's included when we price it.
The same engineers who work on our commercial jobs do the work at home, and you get a written price before any work starts. For a fault, that's once we've found the cause.
Everything is tested and certified when it's done. We're a NICEIC Approved Contractor, so we self-certify the work that building regulations say must be notified and tell building control for you.
Usually, yes. A rewire is planned room by room, so you can keep living in the house while the work goes on.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) will tell you. Signs worth checking include an old fuse box, rubber or fabric-covered cables, no RCD protection, and sockets or switches that are scorched or warm. Age alone isn't the test: sometimes a partial rewire or a new consumer unit is enough.
