Information we collect
We may collect your name, address, email address, telephone number, company name, property or site details and the information you give us in an enquiry, including any files you attach. If you become a customer, we may also keep quotations, job notes, photographs relevant to the work, test results and certificates, invoices, payment records and correspondence. If you visit our website, the services that run it receive technical information such as your IP address and browser information. These are Vercel, which hosts the website, and Sanity, which stores its content and from which your browser loads some of its videos and images. When you send our website form, Vercel BotID also checks information from your browser to tell people from automated programs. Vercel also counts visits to the website for us, as explained under Website and cookies below.
We usually get information directly from you by phone, email, message, website form or during a visit. We may also receive enquiry or job details from a landlord, managing agent, contractor, referral partner or lead platform, such as Checkatrade. If you give us another person's details, please make sure you are entitled to share them.
Why we use your information
We use your information to:
- respond to enquiries and arrange site visits;
- prepare quotations and communicate about proposed work;
- book, carry out and manage electrical work, including access to the property;
- complete and provide inspection reports, certificates and other job records;
- issue invoices, take payments, keep accounts and deal with disputes;
- meet legal and regulatory obligations; and
- improve our services and maintain the security of our website and systems.
We rely on different lawful bases depending on the situation:
- Contract: where we need information to provide a quote you request or to carry out work for you.
- Legitimate interests: to manage business enquiries, communicate with business contacts, keep appropriate job records, protect our business and improve our services. We only do this where those interests are not outweighed by your rights.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep records or disclose information.
- Consent: where it is required, such as for certain marketing or non-essential website cookies. We will ask for it first, and you can withdraw it at any time.
You do not have to give us information unless it is needed for a legal requirement. However, without the contact and property details needed for a particular enquiry or job, we may be unable to quote for or carry out the work.
We may contact you about a quote you requested or work we have done. If we send separate promotional messages, we will do so only where permitted by law and will give you a way to opt out. You can ask us to stop marketing at any time by contacting us at the email address above.
Who we share information with
We share relevant information only when needed with:
- our employees, engineers and subcontractors carrying out the work;
- suppliers and other contractors where the job requires it; and
- service providers who help us run our business, including job-management, accounting, email, document-storage, payment and website providers. These include Tradify and Xero; Google Workspace, which runs our email; Vercel, which hosts our website and its form and counts visits to it; Sanity, which stores our website's content; and Resend, which emails us the enquiries sent through our website form, with any files you attach.
We may also share information with certification or building-control bodies where relevant to the work, and with professional advisers, insurers and public authorities where required.
We do not sell your personal information. Some of our service providers may process information outside the UK. Resend, for example, stores its data in the United States. Where an international transfer takes place, we use a transfer mechanism permitted by UK data protection law. We can provide more information on request.
How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as we have a valid reason to. As a guide:
- Enquiries and quotes that do not lead to work: up to 12 months from our last contact, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Invoices, payment and accounting records: at least six years from the end of the relevant financial year, as required for tax purposes.
- Certificates, test results, inspection reports and job records: up to 15 years after the work is completed. This covers warranty, insurance and possible legal claims, as electrical work can be relevant to safety for many years.
- Marketing preferences: until you opt out. We then keep a minimal record so that we do not contact you again.
When there is no longer a valid reason to keep information, we securely delete or anonymise it. You can ask us about the retention period for a particular record.
Website and cookies
Our website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and saves nothing on your device. It records the page you view, the site that sent you, your country and the type of device and browser you use and, when you send our form, the kind of work you asked about. It doesn't keep your IP address or anything else that identifies you: it tells one visit from another with a code made from your connection, which is discarded after 24 hours. We use these counts, under our legitimate interests, to see which pages help people and to improve the website. Vercel Speed Insights, in the same way and also without cookies, measures how quickly each page loads and responds on your device, so we can keep the website fast. Google Maps loads, and may set Google's own cookies, only when you choose to show a map. If we add anything that needs cookies, we will ask for your consent first. Our cookies page has the details.
Security and your rights
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information and limit access to the people who need it for their work.
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- request access to your information;
- ask us to correct or erase it;
- restrict or object to certain uses, including uses based on our legitimate interests;
- request transfer of your information in some circumstances; and
- withdraw consent where we rely on it.
These rights are subject to legal limits. For example, we may need to keep some records for accounting or legal reasons. To make a request, contact us using the details above. We will respond within one month. This can be extended by up to two further months if a request is complex, and we will tell you if that happens.
We do not use solely automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on customers.
Complaints
If you have a concern, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator:
